Fourth Grade Full Set

$ 546.25

Quantity of Titles Per Set (30 Titles)

A set of 30 titles of highly curated read alouds including nonfiction, authentic voices and diverse characters.  This fourth grade set features first and third person narratives, authentic poetry and mythology.  There are several short and yet meaty picture books that can serve as a springboard for deeper discussions in class.  Female and male protagonists share an equal representation.  This selection will help students develop empathy for moving, loss and the fight against discrimination.

From our Lead Curator, Marie:
Identifying the theme is a challenging skill to develop in fourth grade.  I paired several books so that teachers can model determining the theme with one text, and have students practice with another text such as La gaceta de Landry and Siete reporteros y un periodico.  With informational read alouds, teachers can work on identifying with main idea with Nacer and Nacimientos bestiales.  In nonfiction, help students draw inferences with texts such as Desde el origen del cambio climático hasta ahora, Plasticus maritimus and Ecos verdes.  Students can compare and contrast first and secondhand accounts using El lápiz mágico de Malala and People Power.

$ 362.75

Quantity of Titles Per Set (20 titles)

A set of 20 titles of highly curated read alouds including nonfiction, authentic voices and diverse characters.  This fifth grade set features fantasy and sci-fi titles as well as realistic fiction on social issues. In nonfiction, we've combined descriptive texts with engaged informational texts to impart knowledge while also building student advocacy around topics such as women's rights, environmental protection and citizenship.  Our novels present ways to be inclusive to help teenagers learn how about differences and self-confidence.

From our Lead Curator, Marie: I am a HUGE fantasy and sci-fi geek.  I love YA, and fifth grade is such a great time to dig into these fantastic and dystopian worlds.  In nonfiction, I'm giving students multiple opportunities to compare accounts on similar topics (Hipatia, Clara Campoamor and Todos deberíamos ser feministas on women's rights).  Teachers will be able to integrate knowledge from multiple sources to write knowledgeably about environmental protection (No hay planeta B, María la monarca). Finally, through fiction and nonfiction, students will learn different ways of participating in civic life (La calle es libre and Pequeña historia de un desacuerdo).  Let's empower the next generations to be advocates for themselves, their communities and their planets.

Quantity of Titles Per Set (40 Titles)

A set of 40 titles of highly curated read alouds including nonfiction, authentic voices and diverse characters.  This third grade set features folktales and fables from Japan, France, Nigeria and Brazil.  A handful of books talk about children living in poverty both in the United States and abroad to help students empathize and reach out. Biographies highlight the incredible lives of women and men of color.  The informational selection presents heritage from Spanish-speaking countries, and raises environmental awareness.

From our Lead Curator, Marie:
I see third grade as the perfect time to open students' minds to the world and global issues.  This selection showcases the cultures from Spanish-speaking countries, as well as many far away places.  Our nonfiction selection will develop curiosity and critical thinking about contemporary issues such as mental health, poverty, discrimination and environmental protection.
