Black History Month is about remembering and honoring those who came before us and fought for freedom and equality. Black History Month is also about helping today’s generation of Black children envision themselves as actors and leaders in the world. What better way to do that than through books that include inspiring yet relatable characters. This Latest List includes stories that showcase Black protagonists and their adventures. Some characters face familiar issues, like being the new kid at school, while others live out their wildest dreams, like being in a girl-band of pirates! What ties all of these stories together is how the protagonists are problem solvers, empathetic and relatable, especially for Black children who might not feel the same level of representation as their peers.
