Your SEL Toolkit in Spanish

Our read aloud selections can act as a bridge to teach lifelong skills. Let me be your SEL toolkit in Spanish!

When I first created the read aloud collections, I wanted to include books that would help develop the inner child. I wanted this time to be engaging and meaningful, and a safe space to discuss home, friends and self. With this objective in mind, I created 28 SEL collections for Pre-K through second grade.

This was two and a half years ago, and as new books have been published, they have made their way into these SEL collections, especially if they were authentic titles or featured diverse characters. Every month, we receive new books to review, and I wanted to share three standouts from the last quarter.

His parents inform him that across the world many men wear skirts and dresses, and that not so long ago, women were not allowed to wear pants.

Cuenta conmigo

There are so many hidden messages (inferences) behind Cuenta conmigo! One that I love to see both in illustrations and words is how someone’s passion or special aptitude may not be immediately apparent. It teaches us to be patient with ourselves as we learn to discover our strengths.
